Schalke are looking to move back to the Bundesliga summit on Saturday before switching the television on to see if Bayern Munich can respond.
The Royal Blues were knocked off their perch by Bayern last weekend when they went down 2-1 at home to the record German champions and their coach Felix Magath wants an immediate reaction against Hannover to put the pressure back on his former club, who travel to Leverkusen on Saturday evening.
"Even though it is going to be tough, we want to win, also to get back to winning ways quickly after the Bayern defeat," said Magath.
"We are not easy to play against when we are away and I hope my players realise how strong they can be on the road.
"I am confident that we will put in a good performance in Hannover."
Magath is interested to see how Bayern respond to their heroics in midweek, when they knocked Manchester United out of the Champions League.
"It is certainly a huge achievement to beat a team like Manchester and reach the semi-finals," said Magath.
"The Champions League takes away a lot of your attention so this is a chance for Leverkusen to pick up points this weekend."
Magath will certainly be hoping that Leverkusen can do his side a favour since then, as long as Schalke fulfil their duty in Hannover, they will lead the way with four games of the season remaining.
Hannover are coached by Mirko Slomka, who was sacked by Schalke despite having led them into the quarter-finals of the Champions League two years ago.
"We will give all we have got to win this game," he said. "We have a job to do."
Hanno Balitsch should return to the Hannover team after suspension, replacing Leon Andreasen, who is injured and likely to miss out.
Marcelo Bordon is suspended for Schalke and Benedikt Howedes should take his place in the defence.
