Rio Ferdinand is desperate to end Manchester United’s dreadful run against rivals Liverpool when the two teams meet at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The centre-back admitts it hurts when United are defeated by Rafa Benitez’s team, as the rivalry between the two clubs is so intense. And following a few consecutive defeats, the England defender believes it’s time for a Red Devils triumph.
“We’ve lost the last three games we’ve played against Liverpool,” Ferdinand told the club’s official website.
“Those games haven’t gone to plan but there’s always room for improvement and now is the time for us to beat them.
“Liverpool are one of our biggest rivals and we never like losing to them. I’m confident we can get three points on Sunday and end this streak they have over us.”
Liverpool appear to have come into good form with impressive results in the Premier League and Europe recently, while United are firing on all cylinders. However, Ferdinand doesn’t believe form will count for anything on the day.
“It’s all about who produces the goods on the day in these games,” he added.
“We’ll need to be at our best because, on their day, Liverpool can be a top team."
